Professor A. G. Kurosh was born in January 1908. He made a great contribution to group, lattice and category theories, and to universal algebra. His theorem on subgroups of free products of groups became classical with many applications in algebra and topology. Prof. A. G. Kurosh was the head of Department of Algebra of Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics in Moscow State University from 1949 to 1971.
On the occasion of 100th anniversary of Prof. A. G. Kurosh Department of Algebra is organizing an International algebraic conference
from May 28 to June 3, 2008.
