Vyachelav A. Artamonov was born in the city of Tula on October 2, 1946. In July 1963 he entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University and graduated from Moscow State University in July 1968. During 1968-1970 he was a postgraduate at the Department of Algebra, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, under supervisorship of Prof. A.G. Kurosh.
In April 1971 V.A. Artamonov received the degree of Ph.D. and in
1990 the degree of Doctor of Sciences at the Faculty of Mechanics and
Mathematics of Moscow State University.
The Ph.D. thesis of V.A. Artamonov is entitled: "Subgroups of a free product of Ã-operator groups with a regular group of operators Ã". His D.Sci. thesis is entitled: "Projective modules, groups, and Lie algebras".
In December 1970 V.A. Artamonov received a position at the Faculty
of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University. In 1976-1996
he was an associate professor (docent) and since 1996 he is a full
professor at the Department of Algebra.
V.A. Artamonov is a member of the American Mathematical Society
(1973). He is a member of editorial boards of the International Journal
"Communications in Algebra" (Marcel Dekker Inc., New York), of the
journals "Discussiones Mathematicae, General Algebra and
Applications" (Technical Univ. Press, Zieleno Gora, Poland),
"Algebra and Discrete Mathematics" (Kiev and Lugansk Universities,
Ukraine), "Fundamental and Applied Mathematics" (Moscow State
University), "Abelian groups and modules" (Tomsk University, Russia),
"Tchebyshev Sbornik" (Tula Pedagogical University).
V.A. Artamonov was awarded a jubilee medal "850th anniversary of the Moscow city".
Twelve of his postgraduate students received the degree of Ph.D. at Moscow State University..
V.A. Artamonov is the author of about 130 papers in algebra, the author of 3 books and a coauthor of 7 books - see the publication list.

V.A. Artamonov gives lectures on higher algebra to 1st and 2nd year students at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, lectures on linear algebra for 3-rd year students specializing in mathematical economics, a special course "Algebra, Logic and Number Theory" (on the Ph.D. minimum program) for postgraduates and students of 3-5th years at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. Also he gives lecture courses "Linear Algebra and Analytic Geometry" for 1st year students and "Group Theory and Applications" for senior students and postgraduates at the Advanced College of Material Sciences. Together with the colleagues at the Department of Algebra he conducts the seminars "Research seminar on algebra", "Rings and modules", "Computer algebra".
